Cymatics

SoundMuse offers a range of experiments and creative activities. Participants observe the effect of sound on various materials using musical instruments and unusual scientific apparatus. These include Chladni Plates, Eidophones and Vibration Generators. The emergent wave patterns, revealed through granules, liquids and pastes, can be used to create fascinating visual images.

Harmonography
Participants explore the visual effect of two sounds played together using a string pendulum or a drawing machine called a harmonograph. Instead of sound vibration, two pendulums swinging at different frequencies make musical harmony visual via complex and beautiful patterns.
